Matteo wasn’t meant to survive his training. He wasn’t meant to escape either. And most of all, he wasn’t meant to be seen.

When the Guild of Heroes intercepts a frightened fourteen-year-old empath on the run from a clandestine syndicate known as the Core, they struggle to determine what he is. A victim? A threat? Or something else entirely?

To his friends on the B-Team, a small group of heroes in training, Matteo becomes the fragile center of a mission none of them were prepared for.

As lines blur between rescue and responsibility and the balance of institutional power is threatened, the mission stops being about what Matteo can do and becomes a test of what the heroes around him are willing to do for him and for each other.
